Can England defend their crown after their historic win in 2022? Will Spain, the reigning world champions, continue their dominance on the European stage? Or could a resurgent side like Sweden or the Netherlands rise to the occasion and make a statement?
One thing is certain - it’s the Euros, and anything can happen.
The stage is set for Europe's brightest stars to shine as they battle it out for a place in the final on July 27th. From seasoned champions to emerging young talents, here are five players you won’t want to miss this summer:
Sandy Baltimore
First on the list is France’s Sandy Baltimore. The electric winger made a big move from PSG to Chelsea in 2024 and has quickly become one of the most exciting attacking threats in the Women’s Super League.
Known for her lightning pace, technical flair, and versatility down the left, Baltimore has the rare ability to take on defenders at will and unlock even the tightest defences. The 25-year-old was instrumental in Chelsea’s domestic treble and invincible season, notably in their 2024 FA Cup win, scoring twice in the final and providing an assist.
As France look to claim their first-ever major women’s title, all eyes will be on Baltimore to provide the creative spark that could take Les Bleues all the way in Switzerland this summer.
Aitana Bonmatí
Next is Aitana Bonmatí, the heartbeat of Spain’s midfield and one of the most decorated players in women’s football today. A two-time Ballon d’Or Féminin winner, Bonmatí was central to Spain’s 2023 World Cup triumph and has continued to dominate the European stage with Barcelona.
Her intelligence on the ball, press-resistance, and precise passing make her the perfect midfield general and a game defining player.
With Spain now the reigning world champions, the 27-year-old will be aiming to complete a historic double and guide La Roja to their first-ever European title.
Alexia Putellas
No list of stars to watch at Euro 2025 would be complete without Alexia Putellas. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the women’s game, the Spanish midfielder has been the face of her country’s rise to international dominance over the past five years.
Another two-time Ballon d’Or Féminin winner, Putellas captained both Barcelona and Spain to major silverware before an ACL injury sidelined her just before the 2022 Euros. Now fully fit, she’s returned to top form and reclaimed her place as a leader both on and off the pitch.
Renowned for her composure, passing range, and goal-scoring ability from midfield, the 31-year-old adds experience and balance to a Spain squad brimming with younger talent. With the 2023 World Cup and Nations League already under her belt, she now has her eyes set on completing the trophy set with a European title.
Back healthy, back hungry, and backed by a world-class team, Alexia Putellas is ready to make history in Switzerland.
Vivianne Miedema
Another one to look out for, Vivianne Miedema of the Netherlands remains one of the most feared strikers in the world. Now at Manchester City after her high-profile move from Arsenal, the 28-year-old has returned to top form following injury setbacks.
She’s the all-time top scorer for both the Netherlands and the WSL, and her intelligence, vision, and goal-scoring instincts are unmatched. Miedema plays the game at her own tempo, dropping deep to link play or finding space to finish clinically.
If the Netherlands are to repeat their Euro 2017 heroics, Miedema’s experience and sharpness will be at the heart of it.
Alessia Russo
Last, but not least, one player England fans will be pinning their hopes on is Alessia Russo. The Arsenal striker has become the Lionesses’ focal point since Euro 2022, where she lit up the tournament with four goals - most memorably, a stunning back-heel against Sweden in the semi-final.
Russo is a complete number nine. Strong, mobile, clinical and her movement in the box is second to none. After a stellar club season with Arsenal, where she was joint WSL Golden Boot winner and guided them to European glory, she enters the tournament in peak form.
With key veterans like Mary Earps and Mille Bright retired, 26-year-old Russo is now one of England’s leaders and will be crucial if they are to retain their crown.
