Meet the 5-a-side team with strong ambition, Pathetico Madrid F.C.

Pathetico Madrid is a 5-a-side team, that was founded in August 2022 by the self-appointed manager, Joao. The club joined Goals Manchester’s Wednesday League and after a trial game, were assigned to the Premiership Division due to their playing ability and have never looked back. In fact, Joao has since created a second team, Pathetico Academy, who also competes in the league programme at Goals Manchester on Wednesdays, albeit at a lower division.

We asked Joao, “what’s your football?" -

“Running 2 football teams is challenging but very rewarding. Seeing the players develop from the academy squad to the first team and become starters for the first team makes it all worthwhile. Joining Goals Manchester allowed us to make the most of the competitive environment within an amazing facility.”

The club has grown its presence online, forming a community on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok with entertaining post-match interviews, match statistics, player introductions, and other behind-the-scenes action. Not only have they achieved space in the realm of the popular social media channels mentioned, but they have also launched their own club website and have built their own podcast, similarly named the ‘Pathetico Talks’ podcast, produced by PodPhoria, led by their sponsors at BuzzinSounds. Their ultimate aim is for both Pathetico Madrid F.C. and Pathetico Academy to excel as leading teams in their respective divisions at Goals, reaching such impressive levels of performance that they instil fear in their adversaries. 

Joao shared his favourite playing memory with us…

“We’ve shared a lot of football memories but the most memorable for me is definitely the run-in for the very first season title we played. We finished 2nd with just 1 point difference with ‘The Pretenders’ who won the title. It was a battle till' the very last match day, it was awesome.”

Team fact: Pathetico Madrid F.C. has maintained a flawless attendance record, never once missing a match! Such unwavering commitment to the game leaves us wondering about the boundless possibilities awaiting this modest 5-a-side team hailing from Manchester.
