Any group who has ever accomplished anything in history has needed a leader- names such as Lord Nelson, William the Conqueror, Winston Churchill and The Duke of Wellington immediately spring to mind when thinking of such a character commanding a unit of followers into the battlefield….. B&C Developments Captain Steve Wardell can now join this list.
Wardell’s reputation as an outstanding Captain and leader both on and off the Pitch has made him one of Thursday Night’s most popular faces. After seasons of so near but so far this was always going to be B&C Development’s title, the season before they missed out on the title by two points which only left them hungry for the new season… and they haven’t disappointed. Although B&C have not mathematically won the League title, few will argue that anyone will catch up with the side with a winning streak.
As Wardell wiped the sweat off his forehead as B&C thrashed Smugson 6-4 there was a standing ovation from the fans on Pitch 8 for the man who has navy blue running through his veins. And after the win over an impressive Smugson on Thursday, it has become undoubtedly clear that B&C Developments will be promoted to League Two as Champions sooner rather than later. The success however is not a surprise; the team has been together for years. And Wardell, who holds the record for most appearances as a B&C Developments player, has been instrumental this season. Wardell has established himself as the rock at the back which gives other players a chance to score. This week Wardell hopes to make it 14 wins out of 14 tonight.
